ATC-G Curriculum

The way in which we deliver our curriculum here at the ATC-G is evolving. Recent modifications to the curriculum were implemented in response to industry needs identified by the extensive research of our Industry Liaison Officers. At the ATC-G we aim to provide a unique integrated curriculum model in the form of Project Applied Learning (PAL) that incorporates aspects of all subject areas into single units of study. This allows us to tailor a focused curriculum which supplements the trade program with real life skills and applied learning. These add value to the student’s general education and their ability to become a high quality tradesperson, and a valuable member of the Geelong Region workforce.
Recent projects have included:
‘Survivor’ – which focused on developing healthy lifestyle patterns to ensure strength and focus on the job. This was the impetus for the gym program.
‘Catapult’ – a construction project which focused on design, time management and co-operative work skills.
‘The Shack’ – our current whole-school construction project to build an outdoor recreation area for our campus. This requires students to develop creative solution strategies, formalize proposals for project development and work co-operatively.
Maths, English, Personal Development and Business Skills are embedded into all projects. Student learning across the curriculum is centered on their particular trade specialization. A co-operative curriculum strategy is currently being established in order to integrate student’s VET Certificate III level vocational training and the student’s work with their employer into the College’s overall curriculum.
