How will the ATC-G help my career?
Choosing to start an Australian School-based Apprenticeship (ASbA) through the ATC-G, gives you a competitive edge when you look for work in the future. By combining the apprenticeship with finishing Year 11 and 12, you are able to keep all your options open.

By starting your trade part-time while at school, the ATC-G gives you a head-start on those who wait until finishing Year 12. It also gives you a qualification advantage over the ones who leave school early to do an apprenticeship. So you win both ways. And you always have choices – to do more study, to keep working for an employer, to specialise, to start your own business and so on.

One of the most appealing things about doing an apprenticeship is studying subjects you enjoy and then putting them into practice at work. When you understand how to apply the theory it not only makes the study more interesting, it’s really valuable for employers.

The ATC-G employers all agree that it is important to learn the proper way to do things and that understanding how to use the skills and why you need them is a big help on the job. They also believe that combining an apprenticeship with school study teaches people how to think, how to be better organised and, perhaps most importantly, to be confident in themselves and what they can do.

Many of the ATC-G students would like to set up their own business one day and the curriculum includes entrepreneurial skills and general business knowledge. So regardless of which trade you choose, choosing an ASbA will help develop your life skills, business sense and also give you useful experience and contacts in the working world.
